"HOW CAN WE BETTER SERVE YOU AT ST. JAMES'S CLUB & VILLAS"
We have stayed at the Beach Club at St.James on 7 prior occassions and are due to stay again in March 2010. We've enjoyed everything from 2 week family holidays with the children to a week on our own relaxing at this Hotel. In our opinion, this Hotel is one of the best we have experienced in the world. You can... Read More literally do as much or as little as you please! The food & beverage choices are superb and, whilst the service has always been very good, February 2009 was our best customer service experinece so far! The Virgin Atlantic Team stay at this hotel when they stay over as part of their UK/Antigua flight routines. The Kids Club is excellent and the Team really know how to stimulate and care for children. We have a 26 year old and an 18 year old and the 18 year old was only 8 when we first started coming to The Beach Club, Both boys recite such fond memories of this place and we can't wait to bring our newest addition to the family, our 3 year old, to the Beach Club for the first time in 2011. I can not recommend this Hotel, the Manager and the Team highly enough. A fantastic experience! Read Less

"ST. JAMES'S CLUB, ANTIGUA WAS HEAVEN!!"
Our stay at the St James's Club, Antigua was heaven!! It has always been a childhood dream of mine to go the Caribbean and in particular Antigua and it was all I could have hoped for and more - thank you! Myself, my husband and my 8 year old son stayed at The Beach Club, St James' and could not fault it - the... Read More staff were professional, courteous at all times and nothing was too much trouble, all we had to do was relaxe, unwind, eat (the food was a delight for the taste buds!) and melt into the Caribbean spirit - no problem! The Kidz Club was a godsend for us as parents and a 2 week adventure for Ben, He was there everyday participating in one or more activity and learnt to snorkel. One trip I would recommend is to go on the Excellence - the crew are fantastic, the freshly BBQ'd food a treat and to see the whole of Antigua from the sea and to hear Gary's commentary absolutely brilliant. We can't wait to come back! Read Less
"ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE"
Good morning. My husband and I, along with our two best friends, just returned from a week at the St. James. I just wanted to take a few minutes to tell you what an absolutely wonderful experience it was for all of us!
I am the Director of an Information Technology group and my (work) life revolves... Read More around maintaining a well-run, well orchestrated service delivery team. I mention this because even though I was there for some much needed rest and relaxation, I couldn’t help but pay attention to the finely tuned attention to detail in your operation at the resort. Very, very impressive. Whatever you training programs and techniques you are using to engage your team leaders, supervisors, etc., is clearly getting the job done. We found most everyone on the staff highly accommodating and friendly.
I’d like to mention a couple of people by name. Collette, at the front desk is a gem. She’s professional, friendly and CLEARLY knows her stuff. We relied on her on more than one occasion with our questions (resort related and otherwise) because she represents herself as the kind of person you WANT to gravitate back to. We also met a really lovely girl at the beach bar (can’t recall what it was called) near the Piccolo Mondo named Inez. Delightful, articulate and again, incredible attention to detail…this young lady had it going on. We talked more than once during the week about the fact that this girl could be teaching many of the other hostess-type rolls how the job should be done!
Finally, sincere appreciation to Jeffery who made sure that every dining experience was just wonderful. He made us feel so comfortable…took the time to stop and visit with us each evening. As professional and personable as it comes, and although we had no problems at all…it was readily apparent in observing him at work that he’s a smooth and efficient ‘problem solver.’
My hat is off to you. We’ve traveled all over and this truly was one of the best vacations we’ve ever had. We all have nothing but praise for The St. James Club and our experiences in Antigua. We will unquestionably be back again and we’ll be encouraging everyone we know to stay with you as well! Read Less

"THIS HOTEL IS FABULOUS"
This hotel is fabulous! If you are looking for a relaxing, quiet, but fun resort, this is it! Great food and entertainment every night! The rooms are spacious and the ocean view is amazing! Everyone is so nice here and we never wanted for anything. I definitely recommend this resort out of any of the other ones in Antigua!
"FOOD WAS SUPERB"
Just returned from resort (5-02-09) an amazing kick back resort. Didn't watch TV or read paper all week. Had a fantastic, stand alone villa on the beach which easily accommodated self, wife daughter and friend and of course, mother in law the entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Food was superb, bars... Read More spread out, but excellent. Did snorkel to Green Island. The boat trip and 'specially skipper and crew were top notch. Very informative, attentive and helpful. Not a single complaint. This place spoiled me. Oh, manager on duty when I arrived, (Jeff I think) handled a minor problem very professionally. Thanx sooo much. reejay Read Less
"ACCOMMODATION AND THE FOOD IS EXCELLENT"
My family and I have just returned from St James's (march) This is a wonderful and relaxing resort. I had my wedding there which was beautiful, more than I could have hoped for. The accommodation and the food is excellent. I couldn't of asked for more!
"CARIBBEAN RELAXATION AT ITS BEST"
If you are looking for a hassle-free place to unwind and enjoy beautiful beaches, wonderful weather and friendly people, then St. James's Club is an excellent choice.
The location is exquisite, with gorgeous beaches on both the ocean and bay sides. My wife and I found the property was well maintained... Read More and clean and our "reef villa" was truly delightful - large rooms, clean, comfortable, well-appointed with a kitchen, and an awe-inspiring ocean view from our airy balcony.
The choice of restaurants provided a nice variation (Coco's was our favourite) and both the buffet and á la carte menus offered interesting selections and excellent quality. On our last day, my wife chose á la carte so she could get her cheeseburger in paradise - with fries. The house white wine was quite good, but the red was just average. In general, the selection and quality of refreshments from the beach-cart, pool-side bar, restaurants and evening bar were all delightful. We noted that the evening "Jacaranda" bar appeared a bit stuffy, dark and out-of-place compared to all the other refreshing, open venues at St. James's.
Our stay was just what we needed. We sailed the Hobie-Cats around Mamora Bay every day, went snorkelling and soaked up as much sun as we dared. We enjoyed the Sunday evening party at Shirley Heights overlooking picturesque English Harbour (see photo) and spent a day exploring this world famous sailor's haven - the Maltese Falcon was in port! Also, we really enjoyed the scenic island circumnavigation by catamaran.
For our winter break, getting away from 2+ feet of snow was priority # 1. We mainly used the internet to research this vacation and noticed some variation in comments on the St. James's Club. The majority really liked it, but we noted others' concerns regarding limited nightlife and alcohol. Fortunately, late night partying and rowdy revelling were not on our wish list. We enjoyed the natural beauty of Antigua and found that the staff at St. James', some with enchanting names like Valeshia, Charolyn, Inez, Prince and Treatia, always provided great service with a warm smile.
One of our great vacation memories is peacefully watching the stars light up the night sky, while listening to the breaking waves as we ended our glorious Caribbean day. Read Less
VERY RELAXING, CHESAPEAKE, VA
We just recently returned from the SJC in January. I had won this trip on LIVE with Regis and Kelly (my 2nd win!!) and so happy the wheel landed on this prize! It was my husband and myself and when we vacation, we like to pretty much just relax. Getting thru immigration took a long time so dress in layers. It... Read More got very warm. Long drive to the resort but just ask the taxi driver to stop at the little store on the way and grab a couple brewski's and sit back and enjoy the views. After asking a few questions of the driver, he just took it all over and pretty much gave us an overview of the island and residents. Fantastic.
We were met with rum punch on arrival. Before heading to our room we went and had a couple drinks by the main pool. That is where we met Jeff, the manager. What a nice man. Spoke with us everyday by name making us feel so welcome. He also sent a bottle of rum, cokes and a beautiful fruit platter to our room before we even got there!
Food was good. A buffet is just that and hard to change up everyday but they do a nice job. We started out with breakfast the first 2 days and then scaled back to a small breakfast and then finally no breakfast as meals seem to roll right into the next. I was pretty darn stuffed the whole time. You can also book dinner one day in advance at any of the restaurants. Book early if you want a specific time. Docksider is really nice for the view. Coco's is nice and cool, Rainbow room, comfortable but definitely at least try Picoolo's once (they have a surcharge but worth it) as it is fine dining from wine service, food and table service. Very romantic. Tip them as you would at home please. I wholeheartedly suggest the all inclusive. You'll see what i mean when you sit down to non buffets and see the prices for the non exclusives as the food is very pricey.
We relaxed on the "windy beach" as we were in a premium oceanfront room. The Pineapple building. Book one of the three buildings as you walk in your front door, out the sliding glass door in the rear, few steps and your off your deck, three steps down.......sand......beautiful. Never wanting for a lounge chair ANYWHERE. Swaying Palm trees. Great for sunning as it doesn't get hot, reading, napping which we did alot. Grab a drink from the roaming cart as soon as you see it or they will just drive by. It is very rough swimming and was told, a sneaky undertow so be carefull. Also, didn't really enjoy the seaweed bottom, but with the breeze, cooling off was never necessary and just enjoying the veiw was enough for me.
Don't miss Shirley Heights on Sunday afternoon. The view is magnificent and the band highly entertaining. Gets very crowded, get there early and they only take cash!
We spent one day doing my husbands passion of sailing. Rented a 50 ft sailboat out of Curtain Bluff. Her name is Sentio. Book yourself (flyers in concerierge) and maybe catch a break on the price since they don't have to pay for the concierge service. Steven and Kate made a wonderful captain and first mate. Great stories. Felt like we were sailing with friends. Seriously. If you go, tell them Karen and Joe said "hi". Since it was just the two of us, we got to charter our own path. A wonderful lunch was served and the champagne and wine kept flowing (they have spirits and beer also). It was the highlight of the trip. But here again, it was a long taxi drive but worth it.
Use the water sports! Never a wait. While it doesn't look like the bay is windy enough for that Hobie Cat, once you get out there, it takes off!!! That beach does get hot, but some people like that!
Use the tennis courts. You are supposed to make a court time but we never did as we never saw anyone on them. Nice courts and nets.
Make sure to visit Inez at the main pool bar.......what a nice smile and she just makes you feel at home. Get the "blue drink"!! Tammy, who books your dinner reservations is a real sweetie.
Most guests during our stay were from the UK except for an incentive trip group of Rheme distributors from NJ. Fun group. The UK guests are very reserved but love their wine and champagne at lunch and dinner. If you strike up a conversation, most will chat and are very nice, otherwise very reserved and keep to themselves. You truly have to make an effort. We are 48 and 51 and lets just say, we felt on the shallow end of the age pool. Being an older group of guests, I'd say, most could lose a few pounds, us included, so it was more confortable than being at Sandals with nubile newlyweds that haven't hit the middle age bulge yet. We loved that part. :)
So, go, relax, and enjoy all it has to offer. As far as the negative reviews, I just don't know what could have been so bad. Maybe too uppity, too demanding? Who knows. It's an island resort and it's to get you AWAY from the rat race. Smile at the staff, talk with them, they are all very nice, but i think you need to make it clear you are open to that, otherwise, i think instead of what reviewers preceive as uncaring and rude, is just that they don't want to intrude. It was a great vacation. We came back well rested and just a few pounds heavier! Read Less
